MEET OUR MEMBERS

Most memorable: honestly all of it so far. I love being a part of this group. I love the friends I’ve made so far. I would say that my favorite moment was when Danielle Malleo threatened to dropkick an antisemite who made nasty jokes about me on another server. Every conversation with my death buddy, Alexandria Rumschlag, and my chaos cohort, Jim Folliard, is wonderful.
Most laughable: answering Podcast questions
Ways I’ve contributed: just talking a lot. I haven’t had time to join anything timed virtually, but I enjoy helping people when I can. I’m always so pleasantly surprised by how genuinely supportive and lovely everyone is here. I really do consider y’all my ASU family, and I find myself talking about you to my mom and my other friends all the time!

Memorable IDEAS moments include meeting so many IDEAS members in person for our events, in labs, doing research, and hanging out on campus. So many memories and great experiences I can’t even count.
Laughable moments?! Almost every -OH Hour had me in tears, so good question. Every time is a good time. If I had to pick, it would probably be the infamous “chaos hellfire” pic with Mason and Jonina.
IDEAS allowed me to gain leadership experience and learn how to work with a team. There were absolutely ups and downs, but overall, it helped me grow as a student, person, and most importantly, a friend.
I’ll always remember all the friends I’ve made and lifelong memories I will always have. Forever grateful for my bulbs.
I want people to remember that yes, we are a STEM society and academic, but we are a giant family too. Even after I've long graduated, I am a call/text/email away to help in any way possible - and I am 100% certain most of our alumni will agree. We want to see ALL OF YOU succeed and be badass bulbs.
Kristen Krip; IDEAS president 2022-2023

Most memorable IDEAS moment: OH Hour, all of them.
Most laughable: Playing that drawing telephone game during the holidays - I forget what it’s called. Scribbly? IDEAS gave me emotional and social support as a homeschooling mom of 3 going back to college to follow my dreams. I got my English degree first at ASU, and there was no community. This was the best college experience because of IDEAS. And I have made lifelong friends here.
Ways I contributed to IDEAS: Believing in the vision. There’s always a lull in the 2-3 years of an ASU club, and if they can survive, they’ll be good. We got through that rough spot, and the club is thriving more than ever.
Yes, we are a community first. We are here to support each other and those relationships will continue on beyond graduation
Ethan Betts: Member

Other roles include: Co-Host, Co-Founder, Co-Something of the Untitled Podcast with Jim Folliard, First of his name, Lord of the Memes, Mother of Dragons, Father of (pet) Greg
Most memorable: OH After dark… Those don’t exist anymore; you're welcome.
Most laughable: Taking podcast questions and keeping Jim in check. WHEN HE GOES OFF THE RAILS, WE MUST CONTAIN HIM!
Ways I’ve contributed: I work here, man. And emotional support when the going gets rough. Also, I always post in pets when my kid, Greg, is just being the most handsome boi ever. + I'm sometimes funny.
Jim Folliard: Member & Unofficial Chaos Officer
Member since August 2023. “I'm an installation.”
Other roles include: Podcast co-host
Most memorable is probably the first OH. I jumped into a conversation about Thanos and the snap's abilities. It's nerdy; I'm in.
Most laughable: pretty much every OH and many lounge chats.
I created 'The Podcast' (or it created itself). chronological anomalies are sometimes hard to track) and co-host with Ethan and occasionally Julia.
ASU probably would've been yet another hollow college experience without IDEAS. There's life, community, and a place to veg & vent here.
CHAOS!

Being an online student can be challenging, so I sought out a group pertaining to my major and interests.
I love the sense of community IDEAS brings to my life in regards to the STEM field. The group is very active and engaging! I feel that I have connections that I can reach out to in the future for grad school, jobs, internships, or just to celebrate the daily wins/losses!
One thing I'd like everyone else to know about IDEAS is that everyone is welcome here as long as you promise to contribute to the CHAOSSSSS!

Most memorable moment: Sitting on zoom watching the pitchfork awards and us WINNINGGGGG
Most laughable moment: There are WAY too many to even think of. I feel like during -OH hours, i’m always getting a good laugh out
Major accomplishments/impacts IDEAS has had on you or the community: Pushing me to step out of my comfort zone and become an officer. I was a fly on the wall at first but i took the leap and became an officer and now yall cant get me to stay quiet
Ways that you contributed to the success of IDEAS: Becoming an officer and coming up with new events to have and spreading the word about IDEAS
Ways that IDEAS contributed to your success: providing insight to certain classes and research opportunities, grad school options, job opportunities, ETC.

Danielle Malleo, IDEAS Engagement Officer 2024-2025
Member since February 2022
Other roles include: Darth Valestra, Dark Lady of the Sith, That Star Wars Nerd, Darth Vader simp, Another Chemistry Weirdo
Most memorable IDEAS: Going to my first ever IDEAS meet at Mellow Mushroom and meeting all of the amazing people there! It's the moment that made me realize that this group was something truly special! Also, geeking out over Star Wars with Viridiana Spear, sushi shenanigans with Enyce Fairbanks, RHPS with Alexandria Rumschlag, and venting to Jonina Rodriguez when needed.
Most laughable IDEAS: Literally any time I hop into -OH,I find myself in the middle of the WEIRDEST conversations!! My most common catchphrase is "What the hell did I just walk into??" Also, these past BINGO games have been absolutely hilarious (thanks to Charlie Taa and her suffering, haha!). Also, anytime Jim Folliard, Ethan Betts, and Julia Cassella go on their podcast spiels, there is always something funny occurring.
Major accomplishments/impacts: IDEAS has really given me the opportunity to network and connect with other people who have the same academic and personal interests as me. It is because of IDEAS that I've been able to get a better understanding of what's out there in the world. It has also given me the courage to go out of my comfort zone, run for office (lost to Jonina Rodriguez lol), but take on a new role to help IDEAS become more chaotic ... I MEAN better than ever!!
Ways I have contributed: This is my first year as Engagement Officer, so right now I'd like to say that some of the plans I had for Welcome Week were a success, and I look forward to doing and sharing more fun activities. I also have plans to get more technical about the role, so keep an eye out!
Ways IDEAS contributed to my success: Without IDEAS and many of our wonderful members, I wouldn't have been able to have gotten research experiences at all. When you are nearing the end of the degree and you want to do research, you realize that many of the opportunities are most ripe when you are a freshman/sophomore. IDEAS was able to direct me to OURS, SOLUR, and Immersion Week as well as find sources for REUs (research experience for undergraduates). Now, I've done OURS, led a presentation at the OURS Symposium, did my time at Immersion Week this past summer with another coming this fall, and now I'm beginning to form my own research project through SOLUR!
Remembering IDEAS: I'll always remember how welcoming and encouraging everyone is. Literally there has never been a better group of individuals who are just as passionate, caring, and excited about your academic journey and goals as they are about their own. There's no competition, no gaslighting, no superiority complexes, and no shaming. It really is about collaborating, and I love that no matter what, I've got IDEAS supporting me 110%. Everyone else: IDEAS is the place where you want to connect and have a strong sense of community. No matter where you are in your journey, there are so many people who have been there, are there, or are not there yet and will always be willing to give you advice. IDEAS really cares about its members and wants nothing but the best from you. All they ask in return is that you help others become their very best, like no one ever was.

Jacquie Krause
IDEAS allowed me to connect with people who had the same passions and drive. Seeing these other people succeed and thrive in the face of their own challenges was inspiring and absolutely pushed me to look at grad school beyond the programs that I had initially applied to.
Sarah Earwood
IDEAS allowed me to connect with peers, ask questions, and really read about others experiences and opportunities.
Amy Reyes
As a nontraditional student and a career changer, IDEAS was one of my primary ties to ASU and to a community of passionate STEM students from diverse backgrounds. There were several other students who, like me, were working towards a first or second bachelor's degree in their 30s after working in another field. Many who also shared the goal of applying to medical school. Those further down that path provided inspiration, encouragement, and great advice. I fully believe I would not be an MS2 at my dream med school now if it weren’t for ASU and IDEAS.
